Yesterday afternoon around 5p.m. an anarchist pink demonstration started on Vasilysv island in St. Petersburg. With banners, black flags and slogans against the G8 summit around 70 activists walked on the streets for a little while until the police reached them and started to arrest people. More than 30 people have been taken to the police station. Today except two of them (one under 18) all have been released.

ACTION OF ANARCHISTS FROM THE NETWORK AGAINST THE G8: BLOCKAGE OF THE RADISSON HOTEL ON NEVSKY PROSPECT IN PETERSBURG
JULY 16, 2006

Today, July 16, 2006, at 8.30 in the morning a group of anarchists – participants of the network against the g8 www.spb8.net) from different cities and countries blocked Nevsky prospekt in Saint Petersburg as a sign of protest against the neoliberal policies of the G8.

The traditional anti-war picket in Saint Petersburg against the war in Chechnya, which since 6 years is held every Sunday on Malaya Konyushennaya str. near to the Nevsky Prospekt has been broken up by the police on July 16 at 14.30.
At least 8 of about 20 participants have been arrested, according to other sources - 12. The Police refused to tell to which police department the arrested have been brought, but it is assumed that they are in the same 28 department where in the morning 36 arrested from the Nevsky prospekt blockade had been brought.

On Thursday 13 and Friday 14 July, 2006, people took to the streets worldwide to show solidarity with those facing repression in St. Petersberg in the run up to this year`s G8 summit and to say that „another world is possible!“

Yesterday a sucessfull public action against the G8 took place in central moscow.

some days ago workshops took place with the topic of organising creative forms of protest like pink silver and radical cheerleading. The preperation for the action was organised mostly by local groups, which tried some actions of that kind befor in russia. There was scepticism about polices reaction on such dancing crowd, but today there was no police present at all, just in small parallel streets someone saw two riotpolice vans but nobody was getting in contact with them.

yesterday evening in St. Petersburg on their way to a shop two german persons
from bike caravan and russian guy were stopped by
police to check their passports. germans had passports with them but anyway
there were taken to the police station for identification on the reason of
the g8 summit. they still are at the police station.
i have just called to this police station and was told that they're suspected
in making some provocational actions at the territory of russian federation.
